Impact Mines, Impact Minds

What does it take to be impactful? True impact is not the moment someone looks out; it’s what happens after they look within.

But we don’t want to adhere to the discipline and time it takes to earn insightful impact, so we shortcut to it with beauty, athleticism, money, prestige, etc. But these are just accelerants... not real energy sources.

They may shorten the distance or buy entry. They can grant you an audience before you’ve earned the solidarity. But they are shortcuts to attention, not guarantees of impact.

And that distinction matters, in this humble writer’s estimation, because attention itself has been strip-mined of meaning and reduced to a resource.

Now that impact is commodified, attention becomes currency, or more accurately, raw ore. Its unrefined power is extracted, refined, repackaged, and consumed.

Mined from the masses the way coal is torn from a mountain’s spine. And like mountaintop removal, the process is violent even when it’s profitable. The landscape is altered. The ecosystem collapses. Natural selection is abandoned in favor of survival-mode tactics.

What once grew organically is replaced with optimized yield. What once flowed clean is poisoned by runoff (outrage), envy, spectacle, speed.

And like all industrialized extraction mechanisms, the people most exposed to it are the least capable of relocating. So they adapt… breathe the unfiltered dust, drink the laced water, and normalize the collateral damage.

That’s the quiet tragedy of modernity’s “impact culture.” We’ve confused penetration with permeation.

But if I may introduce an idea: true impact doesn’t just enter the mind... it enters the social conscience. It reinforms not only how we see ourselves, but reminds us of what “self” means, from the individual to the collective “I.”

So, if attention is the ore, then "meaning" is the refinement process.

And it’s the ingredients of that refinement process that determine the sustainability of the finished product: perspective.

So, now it 's time to aske yourself... is your perspective sustainable?

What did it take for you to be impactful? Volume? Virality? Some other hyphenated hyper-“ism”?

What if we chose precision over spectacle, or depth over frequency? What if conviction was the catalyst for convincing? reinforced ideas sturdy enough to live without you defending them?

Because the highest form of impact isn’t being regurgitated. It’s being revolutionary.

When people don’t quote you… they think differently because of you.

That’s not mining. That’s cultivation.
